SVBONY SV580 80mm f/4.5 Petzval APO astrograph
The SVBONY SV580 is a 360mm wide-field astrograph for deep-sky astrophotography. It combines an 80mm aperture, a six-element Petzval optical system and a built-in field flattener, with a stated 44mm image circle for compatible APS-C and full-frame cameras.
It suits imagers building a compact refractor setup for expansive nebulae, star fields and large deep-sky compositions. Threaded camera connections, a lockable camera rotator and an included electronic-focuser installation kit support a practical imaging rig.
Six-element Petzval APO optics with FCD100 glass
The four-group, six-element optical design includes two extra-low-dispersion glass elements, one of them FCD100. These are used to control chromatic aberration and support colour correction in astrophotography.
Fully multi-coated lens surfaces reduce reflections and support light transmission. Good final star quality also depends on accurate focus, camera alignment, tracking and the imaging train.
Full-frame astrograph with a built-in field flattener
The stated 44mm corrected image circle is designed to cover a 36 × 24mm full-frame sensor, as well as smaller APS-C sensors. Because field correction is built into the telescope, a separate field flattener is not required for its native imaging configuration.
Check the clear aperture of every adapter, filter and accessory in your imaging train. Sensor coverage does not guarantee that a restrictive downstream connection will avoid vignetting; suitable calibration frames remain part of a normal deep-sky workflow.
80mm aperture, 360mm focal length and fast f/4.5 imaging
The SV580’s f/4.5 focal ratio makes it a fast refractor for wide-field deep-sky imaging. Its 360mm focal length is useful when you want a wider composition rather than a close-up view of a small object. The actual field of view depends on your camera’s sensor dimensions.
Exposure length and total integration still depend on the target, sky brightness, filters, camera and tracking performance. The SV580 is an optical tube for an imaging system; a suitable camera and tracking mount are required.
Helical focusing and a lockable 360° camera rotator
A fine-thread helical focuser provides manual focus adjustment with supplier-stated travel of 15–20mm. Once focus is set, the dedicated lock screw secures the mechanism.
The integrated camera-angle adjuster rotates through 360°. Scale markings help you record and repeat a framing angle, while its lock knob secures the chosen orientation. You can adjust camera composition without rotating the optical tube in its rings.
EAF installation kit for electronic autofocus
The supplied installation kit includes mounting brackets, a timing belt and timing pulleys with 4mm and 5mm internal diameters. SVBONY’s supplier information specifically identifies compatibility with the second-generation ZWO EAF.
The electronic focuser itself is sold separately. For another model or revision, check its shaft size, mounting arrangement and controller requirements before purchase. Manufacturer photographs showing an SV242 EAF illustrate an optional installation.
M48 and M54 camera connections, 55mm back focus and 2-inch filters
The included camera adapter rings provide M48 × 0.75 and M54 × 0.75 male threaded connections. These allow suitable DSLR, mirrorless and dedicated CCD/CMOS astronomy cameras to be connected through the correct camera-specific adapters.
SVBONY states 55mm back focus. Plan the camera flange or sensor distance, adapters and accessories as a complete imaging train. The supplier places the manual camera rotator outside this stated spacing. Filter wheels and off-axis guiders still need their thickness, clear aperture and mechanical clearance checked.
The internal 2-inch filter thread is available with the M48 adapter connection only. This is separate from the M93 × 1 front thread. Do not assume the same internal filter installation is available when using the M54 connection.
V-style mounting, accessory handle and carrying case
The 254mm / 10-inch V-style dovetail plate and supplied tube rings provide the mounting arrangement. The supplier specifies a 44mm-wide plate with a 45° profile and 38.5mm raised ring support. Check your mount saddle’s fit and balance the complete imaging assembly.
The metal carry handle incorporates a V-style finder base and mounting provision for guide equipment and controllers with matching attachments. Mounting fit depends on the accessory’s own base or bracket.
The CNC-machined aluminium tube has a reversible dew-shield arrangement for compact storage. Supplier-stated fully retracted dimensions are 114 × 365mm. A fitted, foam-lined carrying case is supplied for storage and transport; the supplier describes protection against moisture, splashes, dust and knocks. This is not a stated immersion rating.
The supplier quotes 3,800g without defining which accessories are included in that weight. Choose mount capacity using the complete working load, including camera, guiding equipment and cables.

SV580 camera compatibility and setup questions
Can I use the SV580 with a full-frame or APS-C astronomy camera?
Yes. The stated 44mm image circle is intended for full-frame coverage and also supports smaller APS-C sensors. Choose suitable camera adapters and check imaging-train spacing, clear apertures and sensor alignment.
Does the SV580 need a separate field flattener?
No separate field flattener is required for the native Petzval imaging configuration: field correction is built into the telescope.
What back focus does the SVBONY SV580 require?
The supplier states 55mm. Include the camera’s sensor or flange distance and the thickness of adapters and accessories when planning the assembly.
Can I fit a 2-inch astrophotography filter inside the telescope?
The supplier specifies internal mounted 2-inch filter compatibility with the M48 adapter connection only. For an external filter wheel or drawer, check its threads, clear aperture and spacing.
Is a ZWO EAF included?
No. The installation kit is included, while the motorised focuser is separate. The supplier identifies second-generation ZWO EAF compatibility; other models need their mounting details checked.
Can I use a DSLR or mirrorless camera?
Yes, with the appropriate camera-specific adapter and suitable spacing. The supplied M48/M54 rings do not replace the bayonet adapter needed for your particular camera body.
What mount do I need for SV580 deep-sky imaging?
Use a suitable tracking mount with a compatible V-style saddle and capacity for the complete imaging rig. Camera and accessory weight, balance and guiding requirements should be considered together.
Is the £50 reservation the full telescope price?
No. The full UK telescope price is to be confirmed. Your £50 reserves a place in our presale queue and is deducted from the final telescope price if you proceed.
When will I pay the balance, and can I cancel?
We will contact you with confirmed UK pricing and availability before you accept the final purchase offer. Your reservation is refundable before that acceptance. Allocation is subject to available stock; UK delivery timing is to be confirmed.
