Baader AstroSolar® ClearWhite Safety Film OD 5.1 is a premium white-light solar filter film for safe direct solar observation when correctly mounted and used. This 100 x 50 cm sheet is designed for making front-mounted objective filters for telescopes, binoculars, spotting scopes and camera lenses, as well as suitable handheld viewing filters.
With an optical density of OD 5.1, the film reduces sunlight by more than 99.999%, approximately a 1:125,000 reduction factor. It produces a clear white solar image with high sharpness and contrast, making it suitable for observing sunspots, limb darkening and photospheric detail in white light.

For telescope, binocular, spotting scope or camera use, the filter must always be mounted securely in front of the objective or entrance aperture. It must never be used at the eyepiece, behind the objective, near the focal point, or with damaged film. Inspect the film and holder before every use, and do not use it if there are tears, holes, creases, major scratches, loose areas or signs of abrasion.
A single undamaged layer is sufficient when correctly mounted. The film should not be stretched tight; a slight waviness is normal and does not reduce optical performance.
