Celestron Cometron 7x50 Porro Prism Binoculars combine a wide field of view, large 50mm objective lenses and a lightweight rubber-armoured aluminium housing for affordable comet watching, stargazing and low-light terrestrial observation.
Wide-Field Binoculars for Comets and Stargazing
The 7× magnification provides a steady, easy-to-navigate view, while the 6.6° angular field reveals broad areas of the night sky. This makes the Cometron useful for sweeping along the Milky Way, following constellations, viewing star fields and locating brighter comets.
Large 50mm objectives and a 7.1mm exit pupil support bright views at night and in other low-light conditions.
Multi-Coated Optics and BK7 Porro Prisms
Celestron's multi-coated optical surfaces improve light transmission and contrast compared with uncoated optics. The traditional Porro-prism design uses BK7 prism glass and provides a naturally three-dimensional view for astronomy and daytime subjects.
This model is not specified as using BaK-4 prisms or fully multi-coated optics.
Simple Centre Focusing
A large central focus wheel adjusts both barrels together. The right-eyepiece dioptre provides ±3 adjustment to compensate for differences between the user's eyes.
Fold-down rubber eyecups can be left raised for users without spectacles or folded down to provide the widest practical view when wearing glasses.
Lightweight, Water-Resistant Construction
The rubberised aluminium housing is durable and relatively light at 774g. Celestron describes this model as water resistant; it is not rated waterproof and is not nitrogen filled. Protect it from heavy rain, immersion and damp storage.
Tripod Adaptable
A threaded mounting point is located beneath the logo plate at the front of the centre hinge. A compatible binocular tripod adapter can be fitted for steadier extended viewing.
The tripod and binocular tripod adapter are both sold separately. Celestron's manual states that an adapter is included only with Cometron model 71199, not this 71198 model.
