Large-Aperture EdgeHD with Automatic StarSense Alignment

The Celestron NexStar Evolution 9.25 EdgeHD pairs a 235mm aplanatic flat-field optical tube with StarSense AutoAlign, built-in Wi-Fi and the rechargeable Evolution GoTo mount. Its larger corrected aperture, 2-inch visual system and heavy-duty tripod make this the premium visual and imaging package in the NexStar Evolution range.

  • 235mm f/10 EdgeHD flat-field, coma-corrected optical system
  • StarSense AutoAlign camera and hand controller included
  • Built-in Wi-Fi control through Celestron SkyPortal
  • Integrated LiFePO4 battery for up to 10 hours of observing
  • Heavy-duty 2-inch stainless-steel tripod
  • Includes 2-inch diagonal, 25mm Plössl, Omni 2× Barlow and Moon filter

Wireless Control or Included Hand Controller

StarSense AutoAlign uses its dedicated camera to scan star patterns and calculate an alignment automatically. The aligned telescope can then be controlled wirelessly through the SkyPortal app, with the option to add further alignment points for improved pointing accuracy. The supplied StarSense hand controller provides direct control when a mobile device is not desired.

The mount’s own Wi-Fi network allows normal field operation without an internet connection. Date, time and observing-location information are supplied by the connected mobile device when using the app.

235mm EdgeHD Flat-Field Optics

The 9.25-inch EdgeHD system combines the light gathering and resolution of a 235mm aperture with internal correction for field curvature and off-axis coma. This produces sharp visual views and a significantly flatter photographic field for modern cameras. The native 2350mm focal length is particularly effective for lunar, planetary, double-star and small deep-sky targets.

Evolution Mount and Internal Battery

The Evolution mount provides computerised GoTo movement, tracking, brass worm gearing, manual clutches, four AUX ports, an illuminated accessory tray and a USB charging output. The integrated LiFePO4 battery removes the need for a separate field power pack during typical observing sessions. This package uses the larger CPC-style 2-inch stainless-steel tripod.

The battery can be charged or the telescope operated from the supplied AC adapter. Celestron recommends keeping the battery charged during storage and using the supplied charger or a suitable certified 12V DC supply rated for at least 2A.

Visual Observing and Astroimaging

The optical tube is Fastar/HyperStar compatible for optional ultra-fast f/2 wide-field imaging, and a dedicated optional EdgeHD reducer can provide f/7 operation while maintaining the corrected field. For longer exposures at the native rear cell, the optional equatorial wedge converts the altazimuth mount to equatorial operation. Cameras, T-adapters, reducer, HyperStar lens and wedge are sold separately.

This telescope is not a fully automated smart-imaging system: a compatible camera and all required imaging adapters must be selected separately.

Transport and Setup

The complete telescope is officially listed at 28.4kg. The optical tube weighs 9.53kg, the mount head 7kg and the tripod 12.06kg. Each major component separates for transport, but the 9.25-inch EdgeHD package should be considered a substantial system and benefits from planned storage and carrying arrangements.

The optical tube attaches to the mount through a CG-5-format dovetail bar. Large integrated handles on the mount and practical tripod features simplify assembly, but users should still assess lifting requirements and the route to their observing location.

Solar Safety

Warning: Never look at the Sun through this telescope unless a suitable certified aperture solar filter is securely fitted over the complete front aperture.

Never use an eyepiece-type solar filter, a Herschel wedge or the telescope to project an image of the Sun. Unfiltered sunlight can cause immediate and permanent eye damage and may damage the telescope or attached accessories.

Never leave the telescope unattended, especially when children are present. If the suitability or fit of a solar filter cannot be confirmed, do not point the telescope at or near the Sun.

Instruction Manuals

The official quick setup, NexStar Evolution and StarSense documents provide English, French, German, Spanish and Italian guidance. The separate EdgeHD optics manual covers operation and optical-system considerations.
