Fine adjustment for your Seestar EQ setup

The DEWTREK Polaris Latitude Base gives you controlled tilt and azimuth adjustment when setting up your Seestar for equatorial imaging. Fit it to a suitable tripod, attach your telescope using the correct mounting bar and use the separate adjustment controls to refine polar alignment in the Seestar app.

This red version combines a 6061 aluminium alloy body with an Arca/Vixen-style clamp, a screw-driven tilt mechanism and opposing azimuth adjustment knobs. A compass and bubble level provide useful starting references before you complete alignment using the app.

Why use a latitude base with a Seestar?

As the Earth rotates, the sky’s orientation changes relative to a camera on an alt-azimuth mount. Correctly polar-aligned equatorial mode reduces field rotation by aligning the telescope’s tracking axis with the celestial pole. Supported Seestar models also offer longer individual exposures in EQ mode, including settings of up to 60 seconds where available in the app.

Polaris provides the mechanical support and alignment adjustment. Your Seestar’s own motors and software perform the tracking. The most useful exposure setting depends on alignment accuracy, tripod stability and observing conditions.

Controlled adjustment in two axes

The 0–75° tilt range provides a broad range of telescope positions. Use the screw-driven tilt control for small vertical corrections, then secure the position with the side locking controls. Opposing knobs provide ±10° azimuth fine adjustment for small horizontal corrections.

When the app reports a polar-alignment deviation, adjust the relevant control, rerun the check and secure the base once alignment is complete. Separate controls make it easier to work through the required corrections.

Compass and bubble level: setting the starting position

Bubble level: level the base by adjusting the tripod legs before setting the telescope’s EQ tilt. This gives you a consistent starting platform for setup.

Compass: use it for approximate orientation. It indicates magnetic north, which can differ from true north, and nearby magnetic interference can affect its reading. Complete accurate alignment with the Seestar app’s star-image-based polar-alignment routine.

Tripod and telescope mounting

The underside has a 3/8-inch tripod mounting thread. The upper clamp accepts Arca quick-release plates and standard Vixen-style dovetails, giving you a choice of suitable mounting interfaces.

For a Seestar setup, pair Polaris with the Dark Clear Skies Seestar Vixen GP-style Dovetail Bar, designed for the S30, S30 Pro, S50 and S50 Pro. The bar provides the connection between the telescope and the Polaris clamp.

The dovetail bar is sold separately. Check the complete mounting arrangement and telescope clearance before use.

Getting started in Seestar EQ mode

  1. Secure Polaris to a suitable tripod with a 3/8-inch mounting screw, spread the legs for stability and level the base.
  2. Fit the correct mounting bar to your Seestar, then secure the bar in the Polaris clamp.
  3. Orient the setup approximately towards true north in the Northern Hemisphere, or true south in the Southern Hemisphere.
  4. Select EQ mode in the Seestar app and follow its guidance to set the telescope angle for your location. Use the app’s angle reading during setup.
  5. Run the polar-alignment check, refine tilt and azimuth, then secure the controls. Rerun the check after locking and begin imaging without moving the tripod.

Position the tilted telescope so its weight remains supported over the tripod legs. Follow ZWO’s Seestar EQ-mode instructions for your device and software version.
