150mm Aperture for Exploring the Night Sky
Aperture is one of the most important characteristics of a visual telescope, and the Omegon 150/750 provides a substantial 150mm diameter primary mirror. Its specified light-gathering capacity of 460 gives the telescope the ability to reveal considerably more than smaller beginner instruments.
Under suitable observing conditions, globular clusters such as M13 and M92 can begin to resolve into individual stars, while brighter galaxies and emission nebulae become accessible targets. Objects such as the Orion Nebula and Omega Nebula are excellent examples of the type of deep-sky object that benefits from the telescope's combination of aperture and relatively short focal length.
Fast f/5 Newtonian Optics
With a focal length of 750mm and an aperture of 150mm, this Newtonian operates at f/5. The relatively short focal length keeps the optical tube compact while providing the wider fields of view that are useful when searching for and observing larger deep-sky objects.
The telescope uses a conventional Newtonian optical system rather than incorporating a built-in Barlow lens into the optical path. Both the primary and secondary mirrors are provided with adjustment screws, allowing the telescope's collimation to be adjusted when required.
Moon and Planetary Observing
The 150mm aperture also gives the Omegon 150/750 plenty to offer when observing Solar System objects. Lunar craters, mountain ranges and other surface structures can be explored at progressively higher magnifications as seeing conditions permit.
On Jupiter, the telescope has sufficient aperture to show features including the planet's main cloud belts and, under favourable conditions, the Great Red Spot. Transits and shadows produced by Jupiter's major moons are also within reach.
The specified resolving capacity is 0.77 arcseconds, with a manufacturer-stated maximum useful magnification of 300x.
EQ-3 Equatorial Mount
Rather than using a simple alt-azimuth mount, the telescope is supplied on an EQ-3 equatorial mount. Once correctly polar aligned, an equatorial mount allows celestial objects to be followed as they move across the night sky.
Fine adjustment controls on the right ascension and declination axes help with accurately positioning and tracking objects during visual observation. A counterweight is used to balance the optical tube on the mount.
The mount sits on an extendable aluminium tripod and includes an accessory shelf for keeping eyepieces and other small observing accessories conveniently to hand.
1.25-Inch Rack-and-Pinion Focuser
Focusing is handled by a rack-and-pinion focuser accepting standard 1.25-inch eyepieces. This common fitting also provides access to a wide range of compatible 1.25-inch astronomical eyepieces and accessories should you wish to expand your observing setup in the future.
