Description

Omegon Pro APO AP 66/400 ED with iOptron SkyGuider Pro

The Omegon Pro APO AP 66/400 ED with iOptron SkyGuider Pro is a compact, highly portable astrophotography package combining a 66mm ED apochromatic refractor with a lightweight equatorial tracking mount.

With a 400mm focal length and f/6.1 focal ratio, the Omegon 66 ED APO is particularly well suited to wider-field targets such as large nebulae, star fields and the Andromeda Galaxy. Pairing it with the SkyGuider Pro creates a travel-friendly system capable of tracking the night sky for longer-exposure astrophotography.

Omegon Pro APO AP 66/400 ED refractor with iOptron SkyGuider Pro astrophotography mount

Compact 66mm ED Apochromatic Refractor

At the heart of the package is the Omegon Pro APO AP 66/400 ED, a compact doublet refractor designed to provide sharp, high-contrast views with very good colour correction.

Its 66mm aperture and 400mm focal length make this a particularly portable optical system. The relatively short focal length provides a generous field of view for imaging larger celestial objects while keeping the telescope manageable for travel.

The telescope can also be used for visual astronomy and nature observation, making it considerably more versatile than an imaging-only optical system.

Designed for Portable Astrophotography

The f/6.1 optical system is particularly well suited to astrophotography. Its 400mm focal length provides the image scale needed for many larger deep-sky targets without requiring the size and mounting capacity associated with a long-focal-length telescope.

The supplied specifications rate the telescope as very good for astrophotography, while it is also suitable for observing the Moon, planets, nebulae and galaxies.

Power Linear Focuser with 1:10 Fine Adjustment

Precise focusing becomes especially important when working with an astronomy camera. The Omegon 66/400 is equipped with a Power Linear focuser based on the Crayford principle with an additional rack-and-pinion guide rail.

This arrangement is designed to combine smooth movement with the rigidity required when supporting accessories such as cameras, diagonal mirrors and heavier eyepieces.

A 1:10 fine-focus reduction provides much finer control when establishing critical focus for astrophotography or working at higher magnifications. The focuser accepts 2-inch accessories and is also rotatable.

iOptron SkyGuider Pro Tracking Mount

The included iOptron SkyGuider Pro is a compact equatorial tracking mount designed for astrophotography with cameras, telephoto lenses and small telescopes.

Once correctly polar aligned, the SkyGuider Pro follows the apparent movement of the night sky. This allows considerably longer exposures than would normally be possible from a fixed photographic tripod before stars begin to trail.

The mount is specified to support camera and lens combinations weighing up to 5kg. A counterweight allows the imaging equipment to be balanced around the right ascension axis.

Built-In Polar Scope

Accurate polar alignment is essential for successful long-exposure tracking. The SkyGuider Pro incorporates an illuminated polar scope within its axis to assist with alignment on the celestial pole.

Multiple Tracking Rates

In addition to the normal stellar tracking rate, the SkyGuider Pro provides solar, lunar and half-sidereal tracking rates.

The half-speed setting can be particularly useful for nightscape photography, where the aim is to balance movement between the stars and a terrestrial foreground.

Tracking direction can also be reversed, allowing the mount to be used in either the Northern or Southern Hemisphere.

Rechargeable Battery for Field Use

The SkyGuider Pro incorporates a rechargeable lithium-polymer battery which can be charged via USB. This helps keep a portable imaging rig simple by reducing the need for an additional external power source for the tracking mount.

More Than an Astrophotography Telescope

The Omegon 66 ED APO is also suitable for visual astronomy. Its compact apochromatic optics can be used to observe the Moon and planets as well as brighter deep-sky objects.

It can additionally be used for nature observation when equipped with a suitable reversing prism, and its 400mm focal length also allows it to serve as a corrected telephoto optical system for photography.

A 1/4-inch connection allows the telescope to be fitted to compatible photographic tripods for suitable terrestrial applications.

Aluminium Transport Case

The Omegon refractor is supplied with a sturdy aluminium transport case. Internal foam padding helps protect the optical tube during storage and transport, making the telescope well suited to a portable observing or imaging setup.

What's Included?

  • Omegon Pro APO AP 66/400 ED apochromatic refractor
  • iOptron SkyGuider Pro equatorial tracking mount
  • Tripod
  • 1.25-inch and 2-inch eyepiece adapter
  • Aluminium transport case for the Omegon refractor

Please note: an eyepiece and diagonal/reversing prism are not listed as included. Suitable accessories will therefore be required for visual observing.
