Omegon AC 70/900 EQ-1 Refractor Telescope

The Omegon AC 70/900 EQ-1 is a straightforward beginner's refractor for discovering the Moon, planets and brighter objects in the night sky. Long-Focal-Length Achromatic Optics

The telescope uses a 70mm achromatic refractor with a 900mm focal length, giving an aperture ratio of f/12.9.

Refractors are particularly approachable for beginners because the optical system is enclosed within the tube and requires relatively little routine adjustment. Focusing is handled by a conventional rack-and-pinion focuser.

Two Eyepieces Included

Two 1.25-inch eyepieces are supplied, giving you two useful magnifications straight from the box:

• 20mm eyepiece – 45x magnification
• 10mm eyepiece – 90x magnification

The 20mm eyepiece provides the lower-power view and is a good starting point for locating targets. The 10mm increases the magnification for closer examination of smaller targets such as the Moon and planets.

2x Barlow Lens

A 2x Barlow lens is also included. A Barlow increases the effective magnification of a compatible eyepiece, providing additional flexibility when conditions and the chosen target allow.

Remember that more magnification does not automatically mean a better image. The practical limit depends on the telescope, atmospheric conditions and the object being observed, with the manufacturer specifying 140x as the maximum useful magnification for this telescope.

90° Star Diagonal

The supplied 1.25-inch 90° star diagonal provides a much more comfortable viewing position when the telescope is pointing upwards, reducing the need to position yourself directly behind the optical tube.

Red Dot Finder

A red dot finder is included to help point the telescope towards your chosen target. Looking through the finder provides a simple aiming reference against the sky, making it easier for beginners to move from identifying an object by eye to viewing it through the main telescope.

Suitable for Daytime Nature Observation

The manufacturer's application data also identifies the AC 70/900 as suitable for nature observation. An appropriate erecting accessory would be required when a correctly orientated terrestrial view is desired; an erecting lens or Amici prism is not listed among the supplied accessories for this telescope.

Who Is the Omegon 70/900 EQ-1 For?

This is fundamentally a beginner's telescope. It is a good choice for someone who wants to learn how to use a traditional telescope and equatorial mount while concentrating primarily on the Moon and planets.

The manufacturer's application ratings do not recommend this model for deep-sky observing or astrophotography. Buyers primarily interested in faint galaxies and nebulae should consider a telescope with a larger aperture, while serious astrophotography requires a more specialised mount and optical setup.
