Omegon Pro APO AP 80/500 ED Carbon Apochromatic Refractor

The Omegon Pro APO AP 80/500 ED Carbon is a compact premium 80mm apochromatic refractor combining high-quality ED optics with a lightweight carbon-fibre optical tube and precision 2-inch rotating focuser.

With a 500mm focal length and f/6.3 focal ratio, this Pro APO is well suited to both visual astronomy and astrophotography. Its relatively low 2.8kg OTA weight also makes it an attractive choice for portable imaging systems and smaller equatorial mounts.

Please note: this is the standalone OTA version. A field flattener is not included.

FPL-53 Doublet Apochromatic Optics

The objective uses a two-element ED doublet combining OHARA FPL-53 and S-NBM51 glass. This carefully selected glass combination is designed to provide excellent colour correction, high contrast and finely resolved detail.

All optical surfaces are multi-coated, while the internal baffle system and darkened tube interior help suppress stray light and unwanted reflections.

80mm Aperture with a Fast 500mm Focal Length

The 80mm aperture offers a useful balance between portability, resolution and light-gathering ability. Combined with a 500mm focal length, the telescope provides a relatively wide field of view that is particularly useful for larger deep-sky targets.

At f/6.3, the Pro APO 80/500 is a versatile platform for astrophotography, while its high-quality apochromatic optics also make it suitable for visual observations of the Moon, planets and deep-sky objects.

Omegon specifies a resolving capacity of 1.44 arcseconds, limiting magnitude of 11.3 and maximum useful magnification of 160x.

Lightweight Carbon-Fibre Optical Tube

The optical tube is manufactured from carbon fibre, helping to keep the telescope lightweight while providing a rigid structure for the optical system.

Carbon fibre also has relatively low thermal expansion, an advantage during longer imaging sessions where changing night-time temperatures can otherwise affect focus.

The matching carbon-fibre dew shield is retractable, reducing the telescope's overall size for transport and storage.

Precision 2-Inch Rotating Crayford Focuser

The telescope is equipped with a 2-inch Crayford focuser designed to provide smooth and precise adjustment for both visual accessories and imaging equipment.

A 1:10 fine-focus reduction allows very small focusing adjustments, particularly useful when achieving critical focus with an astronomy camera.

The focuser can also be rotated through 360°, allowing the orientation of a camera or eyepiece to be changed without altering the telescope's pointing.

Built for Astrophotography

The combination of ED apochromatic optics, a lightweight carbon-fibre tube and precision focuser makes the Pro APO 80/500 a capable foundation for a compact astrophotography rig.

The supplier specifically states that the focuser can accommodate substantial imaging equipment and is intended to work with full-frame cameras without vignetting caused by the focuser itself.

This version does not include a field flattener. A suitable field corrector can therefore be selected separately according to your camera and imaging requirements.

Compact and Portable

At only 2.8kg, the OTA remains highly manageable for a premium astrophotography refractor.

The telescope is approximately 46cm long when extended and 39cm when retracted, making it convenient to transport to darker observing locations.

Aluminium Transport Case Included

A robust aluminium transport case is included for storing and transporting the telescope. The case measures approximately 56 × 20 × 32cm.
