Omegon Pro APO AP 85/560 ED Triplet
The Omegon Pro APO AP 85/560 ED Triplet is a compact premium apochromatic refractor designed for astronomers and astrophotographers looking for excellent colour correction, sharp stellar images and a highly portable optical tube.
Its 85mm air-spaced triplet objective incorporates Japanese Ohara FPL-53 ED glass, combining an 85mm aperture with a 560mm focal length and relatively fast f/6.6 focal ratio.
The result is a versatile APO suitable for astrophotography as well as detailed visual observation of the Moon, planets and deep-sky objects.
FPL-53 Triplet Apochromatic Optics
The optical system is built around a three-element air-spaced objective incorporating high-quality Ohara FPL-53 ED glass.
This triplet design is intended to minimise chromatic aberration and provide excellent colour correction. Stars appear clean and sharply defined, while fine detail and contrast are preserved during both visual observation and imaging.
For astrophotographers, this level of colour correction is especially useful when imaging bright stars and high-contrast targets where residual false colour can otherwise become particularly noticeable.
Sharp, High-Contrast Visual Astronomy
A quality apochromatic refractor is not just an imaging instrument. With no central obstruction in the optical path, the Omegon Pro APO can deliver crisp, high-contrast visual views.
The 85mm aperture makes this an attractive portable telescope for lunar and planetary observing, while its relatively wide field also makes it suitable for exploring star fields, clusters and larger deep-sky objects.
The supplied specifications give a maximum useful magnification of 170x.
Fast f/6.6 Optics for Astrophotography
With a 560mm focal length and f/6.6 focal ratio, the Omegon 85/560 provides a useful combination of image scale, aperture and portability for astrophotography.
The compact optical tube makes it particularly appealing as a travel imaging telescope, while the triplet objective provides the colour correction expected from an imaging-focused APO.
Please note: this version is supplied without a field corrector/flattener. Any corrector required for a particular imaging setup must therefore be selected separately.
2-Inch Hybrid Crayford Focuser
The telescope is equipped with a 2-inch hybrid Crayford focuser combining the smooth movement associated with a Crayford system with an additional rack-and-pinion guide.
The focuser is specified with a substantial 6kg load capacity, making it suitable for supporting compatible cameras and imaging accessories.
It is also rotatable, allowing a camera or eyepiece to be positioned at the required orientation without disturbing focus.
1:10 Fine Focusing
Dual-speed focusing combines normal coarse adjustment with a 1:10 microfocus control. The fine-focus control allows very small adjustments, particularly useful when establishing critical focus for astrophotography.
The focuser provides a specified 95mm adjustment range and 175mm backfocus. A camera-side M54x0.75 female thread is also specified.
2-Inch and 1.25-Inch Accessory Compatibility
The focuser accepts 2-inch accessories, and a 2-inch to 1.25-inch reducer is included. The reducer also incorporates a filter thread.
This gives the telescope flexibility for use with compatible eyepieces, diagonals, camera adaptors and imaging equipment.
CNC-Machined Optical Tube
The optical tube uses a CNC-machined metal construction with an internal anti-reflection system. The inside of the tube is lined with a dark velvet-like material to help suppress unwanted internal reflections.
CNC-machined tube clamps are also specified.
Compact Travel APO
Despite its triplet objective and substantial focuser, the telescope remains compact. The optical tube is approximately 440mm long when retracted and 515mm with the dew shield extended.
At approximately 4.2kg, it is well suited to astronomers who want high-quality APO optics in a telescope that remains practical to transport to darker observing locations.
Aluminium Transport Case Included
A protective aluminium carrying case is included, providing secure storage and easier transportation for the optical tube and its supplied accessories.
