Omegon Pro APO DoubleED 40/180 Sixtuplet Astrograph

The Omegon Pro APO DoubleED 40/180 Sixtuplet is an exceptionally compact wide-field astrograph designed for astrophotographers who want a highly portable imaging system without compromising optical correction.

Its sophisticated six-element optical system incorporates two high-quality ED glass elements and an integrated corrector. The result is a flat, colour-corrected imaging field designed to produce crisp stars across a generous 44mm corrected image circle.

With a fast f/4.5 focal ratio and just 180mm focal length, this little APO is particularly well suited to large nebulae, Milky Way regions, star fields and other expansive deep-sky targets.

Key Features

  • 40mm aperture and 180mm focal length for ultra-wide-field astrophotography
  • Fast f/4.5 focal ratio ideal for efficient deep-sky imaging
  • Six-element apochromatic optical design
  • Two premium ED glass elements for excellent chromatic correction
  • Integrated field corrector – no separate flattener required
  • 44mm fully corrected field suitable for large imaging sensors
  • Helical focuser for precise camera focusing
  • 55mm backfocus
  • M48 camera-side connection
  • Rotatable imaging assembly for easier framing
  • Compact 0.8kg OTA ideal for portable imaging rigs

Omegon Pro APO DoubleED 40/180 Sixtuplet astrophotography telescope

Six-Element Optics for a Flat Imaging Field

Despite its remarkably small size, the Pro APO 40/180 uses an advanced sixtuplet optical system. Six optical elements work together to control chromatic aberration, field curvature and other aberrations that can become particularly noticeable in wide-field astrophotography.

Two elements use ED glass to help suppress unwanted colour fringing around bright stars. Fully multi-coated optical surfaces also help minimise reflections and preserve image contrast.

Omegon 40mm sixtuplet APO optical tube

Built for Wide-Field Astrophotography

The combination of 180mm focal length and f/4.5 optics provides a very wide field of view. This makes the telescope particularly attractive for imaging extended targets that can be difficult to frame with longer focal-length instruments.

Large emission nebulae, molecular cloud regions, expansive star fields and Milky Way structures are all natural targets for this compact astrograph.

Omegon Pro APO 40 180 compact wide field astrograph

Integrated Field Correction

The optical corrector is built directly into the telescope. There is therefore no need to purchase, space and configure a separate field flattener.

The system provides a 44mm fully corrected field, making it suitable for astrophotographers using larger imaging sensors as well as smaller APS-C and dedicated astronomy cameras.

Compact Imaging Rig

At only around 0.8kg and approximately 168mm long, the 40/180 is extremely easy to incorporate into a portable astrophotography setup.

Its low weight places relatively little demand on the mount, making it an interesting option for lightweight equatorial mounts and portable imaging systems where keeping the overall payload down is important.

Omegon Pro APO 40mm portable astrophotography telescope

Helical Focuser and Camera Rotation

The telescope uses a helical focusing system designed for precise camera focusing while keeping the optical system compact.

A rotatable connection allows the camera orientation to be adjusted without disturbing the telescope position, making it much easier to frame elongated nebulae and other wide-field targets exactly as required.

The telescope provides an M48 connection and a specified 55mm backfocus.
