Move Shoot Move NOMAD Wedge

A precision adjustable base for the Move Shoot Move NOMAD Star Tracker, giving separate altitude and azimuth adjustment for more controlled polar alignment.

Move Shoot Move NOMAD Wedge for Polar Alignment

The MSM wedge is the adjustable base between your tripod and the Move Shoot Move NOMAD star tracker. Its separate altitude and azimuth controls let you make small corrections during polar alignment without repeatedly repositioning a freely moving ball head.

Choose it if you already own a NOMAD and want more controlled alignment adjustments, or are planning a tripod-based camera tracking setup. The wedge is an alignment accessory, not a motorised star tracker.

Where does it fit in the setup?

  1. Tripod: supports the complete system.
  2. Wedge: adjusts the direction of the tracker for polar alignment.
  3. NOMAD: supplies the tracking movement.
  4. Camera ball head: frames your target above the tracker.
  5. Camera and lens: capture the image.

An optional Z/V mount can sit between the tracker and camera ball head for additional positioning flexibility. It serves a different purpose from the wedge beneath the tracker.

Wedge or ball head: what is the difference?

A ball head beneath NOMAD is a compact way to set its angle, but small corrections can be harder to control. A wedge separates those corrections into up/down and left/right adjustments. A camera ball head above NOMAD remains useful for composition: polar alignment and camera framing are separate jobs.

Use a suitable polar-alignment method to check the tracker axis. The wedge provides the adjustments; it does not measure alignment or perform it automatically.

Connections and construction

  • Tripod connection: 3/8-inch threaded socket underneath.
  • Equipment connection: included Arca-Swiss plate with a 1/4-inch-20 mounting screw.
  • Mechanical tilt range: 0–60°.
  • Manufacturer's maximum wedge load: 5kg.
  • Construction: CNC-machined aluminium alloy.

Check the whole setup: the wedge's load rating does not increase the tracker, tripod or ball head's capacity. Check every component and allow for the equipment carried above it. The mechanical tilt scale should not be assumed to equal your observing latitude; the required orientation depends on how the tracker attaches.

Using the adjustment controls

The top clamp knob secures the quick-release plate. The altitude knob adjusts tilt, while the handle supports and locks that mechanism. The two azimuth knobs provide fine side-to-side movement. MSM identifies the base-connection screw as a factory fitting, not a user adjustment.

Support your equipment when loosening connections and check that it is secure before letting go. Follow the official MSM wedge control guide for the labelled control diagram.

Before ordering

This listing is for the wedge, not a complete camera-tracking kit. Check your tripod's exposed mounting thread and your existing tracker connections before ordering. If you are adapting another device, send us the exact model and mounting details rather than assuming that a similar-looking fitting will work.

See the NOMAD star tracker for the tracking component. Product connections and adjustment range are referenced to MSM's wedge specification.

Frequently asked questions

What does the NOMAD Wedge do?

It provides fine altitude and azimuth adjustment so you can point the NOMAD tracker more accurately at the celestial pole before starting a tracked exposure.

Does the wedge include the NOMAD Star Tracker?

No. This product is the adjustable wedge only. The NOMAD Star Tracker is sold separately.

What is the tilt range?

The wedge has a stated mechanical tilt range of 0–60°.

What load can the wedge support?

Move Shoot Move specifies a maximum wedge load of 5kg. The safe capacity of the complete system is still limited by the lowest-rated part of the tripod, tracker, head and camera setup.

How much is the NOMAD Wedge?

The current Dark Clear Skies price is £89.
