What is the NOMAD Star Tracker for?

NOMAD is intended for portable wide-field astrophotography with a camera and lens. Once polar aligned, the tracker rotates with the sky to reduce star trailing during longer exposures. The usable exposure time depends on focal length, polar-alignment accuracy, balance and the stability of the complete setup.

Portable Milky Way and night-sky photography

At 430g, NOMAD is suited to travel and dark-sky trips where a conventional equatorial mount would be unnecessarily large. It can form the centre of a compact setup for Milky Way fields, constellations and other wide-field night-sky subjects.

What else do I need?

A working tracking setup normally requires a sturdy tripod, a suitable camera support or ball head and a method of polar alignment. Browse the Move Shoot Move UK range for compatible mounting and alignment accessories.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Move Shoot Move NOMAD Star Tracker?

The NOMAD is a compact motorised star tracker designed for portable astrophotography with DSLR and mirrorless cameras. Once polar aligned, it follows the apparent movement of the night sky so you can use longer exposures than with a fixed tripod.

Is the NOMAD suitable for Milky Way photography?

Yes. Its low weight and compact size make it well suited to travel and wide-field night-sky photography. The best exposure length depends on focal length, polar-alignment accuracy, balance and tripod stability.

What payload can the NOMAD carry?

Move Shoot Move states a maximum payload of 3.5kg. Treat that as the total supported camera-and-lens load, and keep the setup well balanced.

Do I need a wedge?

A wedge provides fine altitude and azimuth adjustment for polar alignment. For a more controlled setup, see the Move Shoot Move NOMAD Wedge, currently listed at £89.
