Omegon N 150/750 EQ-4 Newtonian Reflector Telescope
The Omegon N 150/750 EQ-4 combines a versatile 150mm Newtonian reflector with the more substantial Omegon EQ-4 equatorial mount. With its 150mm aperture, 750mm focal length and fast f/5 optical system, it offers an excellent introduction to serious visual astronomy while remaining relatively compact and manageable.
The 150mm aperture provides enough light-gathering power to move well beyond basic lunar observation. Star clusters, bright nebulae, galaxies and planetary detail all become accessible, making this a telescope with plenty to explore as your experience grows.
150mm Aperture – A Big Step into Deep-Sky Astronomy
At the heart of the telescope is a 150mm Newtonian reflector. The larger aperture gathers considerably more light than smaller introductory telescopes, opening up a much wider selection of objects beyond the Solar System.
Under suitable observing conditions, globular clusters such as M13 and M92 begin to reveal their stellar structure, while bright emission nebulae such as the Orion Nebula become impressive visual targets. Numerous galaxies are also within reach from suitably dark skies.

Fast f/5 Newtonian Optics

On Jupiter, the main atmospheric cloud belts can be observed, while the changing positions of the four bright Galilean moons provide something different to follow from night to night. Under favourable conditions, shadows cast by these moons as they transit Jupiter can also be visible.
Saturn and its ring system, Mars around favourable oppositions and the changing phases of Venus provide further Solar System targets.
EQ-4 Equatorial Mount
A capable telescope needs a suitably stable mount. The supplied Omegon EQ-4 is an equatorial mount designed to provide a more substantial platform than the lighter EQ-3.
Once correctly polar aligned, celestial objects can be followed primarily through movement of the right ascension axis. Slow-motion controls on both the right ascension and declination axes allow precise manual positioning and tracking.
A counterweight balances the optical tube, helping the mount move smoothly and remain stable during observation.
Built-In Polar Finder
A particularly useful feature of the EQ-4 is its polar finder scope. This assists with more accurate polar alignment of the equatorial mount than simply pointing approximately towards Polaris.
The mount provides a specified polar elevation adjustment range of 20° to 70°.

Supplied Eyepieces
Two 1.25-inch Plössl eyepieces are supplied:
- 25mm Plössl – approximately 30x magnification
- 6.5mm Plössl – approximately 115x magnification
The 25mm eyepiece provides a wider field of view suitable for finding objects and observing larger targets, while the 6.5mm eyepiece provides substantially higher magnification for smaller objects and planetary detail.
2x Barlow Lens Included
A 2x Barlow lens is also included. When used with a compatible eyepiece, a Barlow effectively doubles the magnification produced by that eyepiece.
The telescope itself has a manufacturer-specified maximum useful magnification of 300x, although the practical magnification available on any particular night will depend heavily on atmospheric seeing, optical alignment and the target being observed.
Red Dot Finder
The supplied red dot finder provides a simple way to point the telescope towards a target before viewing it through the main eyepiece.
Rather than providing a magnified finder view, a red dot finder projects an aiming reference against the sky, making it intuitive for beginners learning their way around the constellations.
Collimatable Newtonian Optics
The primary and secondary mirrors can be adjusted for collimation. Correct collimation aligns the mirrors with the optical axis and is an important part of obtaining the best possible performance from a Newtonian reflector.
Collimation may sound complicated to a first-time Newtonian owner, but it is a normal part of owning and maintaining this type of telescope.
Astrophotography – What to Expect
The equatorial EQ-4 mount and polar finder provide a useful introduction to the principles of polar alignment and celestial tracking, and the supplier specifically mentions taking first photographs of subjects such as the Moon.
However, the manufacturer's formal application specification rates this telescope as not recommended for astrophotography. We therefore recommend viewing the N 150/750 EQ-4 primarily as a visual astronomy telescope, rather than a dedicated long-exposure deep-sky imaging system.
For beginners interested in experimenting with imaging, lunar and planetary work is the more appropriate place to start.
