A SONY sensor offering
extremely high sensitivity.
Sony has developed a back-illuminated structure CMOS image sensor with 2.4 µm unit pixel and 14 bit ADC which provides all three advantages necessary for astrophotography: high resolution, high sensitivity and high dynamic range.
Read moreA rare optical system combining
compactness and performance.
Vaonis has developed an optical system inspired by the biggest professional observatories combined with the refractor lenses used by amateurs in search of excellence. That is the origin of the refractor-reflector system Nasmyth focus present in each Stellina.
The first on board auto-focus
accessible to everyone.
We know that adjusting focus is a tedious process for many observers. This is why Stellina’s motor is controlled by its on-board computer. This system allows for a focal precision of 12 micrometers. Stellina captures an image, analyses it and indicates the best position to place the sensor, which then lets the motor do it automatically. Thermal variations are also taken into account to allow the user to calibrate the focus when necessary.
Power and control.
A powerful sensor, 4 motors, 1 heating resistance, 2 temperature and humidity sensors, Stellina has no shortage of on-board equipment. To control all of this and offer the best possible images, Stellina includes an on-board computer equipped with a 64-bit quad-core processor clocked at 1.4 GHz, a high-performance graphics processor and 1 GB of SDRAM. To supply all of these elements in the best possible way, a dedicated and intelligent electronic card optimizes each energy expenditure and allows Stellina to be supplied simply via a USB port.
Countering constraints.
Alt-azimuthal mounts offer many advantages such as: ease of installation, balancing stability and easy positioning of the various electronic elements. A defect does however exist, the field rotation. This directly impacts the size of the observable area due to the slow rotation of the field on itself. Stellina incorporates a mechanical rotation system controlled by the imaging unit in order to guarantee that the sensor operates at its maximum capacity. Additionally, it allows you to choose the field you want, particularly useful for diffuse nebulae and galaxies!
